The United States, According to Barack Obama, has killed Osama bin Laden.  It’s more like capital punishment than an assassination.  Rumors of his demise had been coming & going for the past quite a few years anyway but now they have his corpse as guaranteed proof.   Ever since he masterninded the moslem attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon & the White House in 2001, the world has been turned upside down. God virtually always seems to enjoy working by way of contrast.  Yesterday saw the beatification of Pope John Paul II.  Immediately before that was the wedding of the English prince & his Kate.  Each of these milestones highlights for us a different facet of reality.   In each particular case good can be found.  The Holy Father’s beatification shows us the importance of absolute fidelity & obedience to God’s Will.  The royal wedding gives us a bit of a peek into history & pageantry, howsoever anachronistic & snooty it may all be.  The death of bin Laden shows us that we don’t have to let the terrorist attacks go on forever & that there may yet be hope for a relatively peaceful twenty first century up ahead of us.
